Community Summer Fiesta 2026

Throughout June, Seven Sisters Market came alive with our Community Summer Festival — a month of activities, workshops and celebrations bringing together traders, local communities, families, young people and visitors from across London and beyond.

The festival was an opportunity to celebrate the Market as more than a place to shop and eat. It is a place shaped by community, culture, migration, resistance and collective action — and a space where people continue to meet, organise, create and celebrate together.

A month of activities at the Market

Throughout June, different activities brought people into the Market and created opportunities to meet, learn, make things and have fun together.

Our programme included Zumba, songwriting workshops, Create Your Own Outfit sessions, activities for children and young people, music, dance and community engagement activities, alongside opportunities to discover more about Seven Sisters Market, its communities and its history.

At the entrance to the Market, La Casita, designed by UNIT38, welcomed people throughout the month. The colourful temporary structure was the result of days of building, installing and painting, with many hours contributed by volunteers who helped bring it to life.

Building a Living Archive together

Throughout the festival, we also developed our Living Archive, created by Verónica Posada, Juan Pablo Angarita, Tatiana Vega and María Catalina Venegas. At its centre is a timeline bringing together some of the people, organisations, campaigns and spaces that have shaped Latin American life in London. Throughout June, community members, researchers, artists and long-standing community leaders contributed their memories, photographs, stories and knowledge, helping us build this history collectively.

The Living Archive remains installed at Seven Sisters Market and continues to grow, connecting the Market's own history of migration, community organising and resistance with the wider story of Latin American London.

Celebrating together

On 27 June, the celebrations grew even bigger with the Lookalike Contest and ticket raffle, bringing lots of excitement and new visitors to the Market. A huge thank you to Haringey Culture Collective for organising the day and for all the energy and excitement surrounding the raffle.

The festival then culminated with our Summer Fiesta celebrations on 28–29 June, when the Market welcomed an incredible mix of people from different parts of London and beyond. We danced, celebrated, ate, created and spent time together — with people who have known and supported Seven Sisters Market for many years, as well as visitors discovering it for the first time.

For us, that was an important part of the festival: opening the Market to new people while sharing the community and history behind it. Seven Sisters Market exists today because of decades of organising, campaigning and collective struggle. Celebrating here also means recognising that history and inviting new people to understand it and become part of what comes next.

None of this would have been possible without the many people who helped make it happen. A huge thank you to UNIT38, Sound Latino Radio, Latin Elephant, Haringey Culture Collective, and all the organisations, community groups, artists and partners who contributed to the festival — and, of course, to our traders and the many volunteers who gave their time, energy and creativity throughout the month. We are also incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us, supported the activities and helped spread the word across their networks.

The Community Summer Festival may be over, but what was created together continues. La Casita is now beginning its next chapter, as we work with traders to transform its wooden boxes into a community garden for Seven Sisters Market.
