The Wards Corner Community Plan proposes a community-led refurbishment of the celebrated Seven Sisters Indoor Market (Latin Village) and historic Wards Buildings to create a new cultural & social hub for everyone.

The buildings will be democratically owned by the Wards Corner Community Benefit Society’s members and run for the benefit of all who live and work in Tottenham and beyond.

who are we?

Born out of more than 20 years of community organising and campaigning by local residents, traders and community organisations—including the Save Latin Village campaign—the Wards Corner Community Benefit Society (CBS) was established in 2022 with a shared vision: to steward the building and shape its future once restored.

Today, we manage the Wards Corner Community Space and work alongside the market's historic traders, all of whom have returned and continue to make this place so special. At the same time, we are working closely with the traders, Architecture 00, Unit 38 and Places for London to co-produce the design of the permanent market, ensuring that its future reflects the needs, aspirations and heritage of the communities that have sustained it for generations.

Since reopening in October, we have been delivering a vibrant programme of activities that celebrates, supports and connects our communities—a first glimpse of the Community Plan in action. From creative workshops and advice drop-ins to cultural events and community-led initiatives, the space is being shaped by and for the people who use it.

Our Mission

To operate the market under the key principles of:

  • Self-management: the restored building will be owned and managed by market traders and the local community

  • Affordable rents: rents for market traders will be maintained at existing levels

  • New community space: accessible social spaces, low-cost office space, an expanded market and dedicated community facilities will be created

  • Community Wealth Building: all profits will be reinvested into the upkeep of the building and funding further local community initiatives

Wards Corner

The Wards Corner building and the upper two floors of the market have remained vacant for nearly fifty years.

The Community Plan will create more space for traders on the ground floor and open up the upper floors to provide extra retail, work and community spaces for local small businesses and organisations.

New lifts, staircases and accessible toilets will allow the market to welcome people of all ages and abilities.
